HANNAH MCCARTHY SMITH, 23, beloved eldest daughter of Patti and Rob Smith, was tragically taken in a car accident Thursday, August 6, 2009 in Bondville, Vt. Hannah was born in Rockville Center, L.I., July 25, 1986, and attended the Greenwich Country Day School, graduating in 2002. Subsequently, she attended The Lawrenceville School, then graduated from Greenwich High School in 2005. While in high school, she was a member of the Greenwich Ballet Company, directed by Felicity Foote. Hannah graduated with honors from Ohio Wesleyan University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in May of this year. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving sisters and brother, Chloe, Thayer, and Molly; her grandparents, Pat and Desmond McCarthy of Long Island and Ann and Hobart Smith, formerly of Vermont, now residing in Virginia; 11 aunts and uncles; and 17 cousins. Everything Hannah did, she did with passion. She made heads turn with her beautiful smile, intelligent eyes and a wonderful energy that animated her. She was a free spirit who inspired every person lucky enough to know her. A talented, beautiful, and compassionate young woman, she had just moved to Bondville, Vt. to pursue her passion, the fashion industry, with the ski wear manufacturer, Vist. Friends may call in the Fred D. Knapp and Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Avenue, from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday August 9th. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday , August 10th, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 178 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich. Afterwards, interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the VivaPop All-American Soap Box Derby, of the United Way of Greenwich, 1 Lafayette Court, Greenwich CT, 06830.
