Catherine Ray Biddle
Mrs. Catherine Ray Biddle, 87, a resident of Homewood at Martinsburg, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004.
She was born Nov. 30, 1916, at Roaring Spring RD, daughter of Harry and Edna (Smith) Showalter.
She was twice married: first to George F. Ray April 5, 1938. He died Aug. 30, 1954.
She then married Levi S. Biddle July 13, 1968. He died Oct. 7, 1995.
Mrs. Biddle was a lifelong member of Christ Church, Roaring Spring.
She retired April 7, 1978, from Cove hydrating Plant, Martinsburg, and was a former employee at Iron Masters Country Club, Roaring Spring RD. She was a 1933 graduate of Roaring Spring High School. She was a member of Woodbury Grange and Homewood at Martinsburg Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Joyce E. Bassler and her husband, Erwin D.; and a son, Gene A. Biddle and his wife, M. Louise.
She was preceded in death by two sons: Harry F. Ray who died Feb. 27, 2001, and Charles 0. Biddle, who died Jan. 3, 1990.
She also is survived by five grandchildren: Kathy Biddle, Sue Ann Feather, Cindy Steele, Duane A. Biddle and Terri L. Biddle; five great-grandchildren: Garrett Biddle Feather, Dustin W. Steele, Danae M. Steele, Dana R. Steele and Nicholas D. Steele; and a great-great-granddaughter, Halley M. Steele.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers: David Showalter, who died Oct. 31, 1971, and D. Sherwood Showalter, who died April 25, 1973.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Christ Church, Roaring Spring, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday by Pastors Joel Kletzing, Philip Steele and Gerald McCuller, Jr.
Memorial contributions may be given to Homewood at Martinsburg.
Arrangements are by J. Gary Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring.
