Wayne | James P.R. "Butch" Deats Sr., age 62, of the town of Wayne, NY died on Monday February 10, 2014 in the comfort of his home, after a long battle with cancer.

Honoring his wishes there were no prior calling hours; a private graveside service will be held in Tyrone Union Cemetery. A Celebration of His Life will begin at 12 noon on Saturday May 17 at the "Lost & Found" Tavern in Tyrone. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne Volunteer Fire Dept. or Ambulance Corp., P.O. Box 91, Wayne, NY 14893 or to Care First 11751 East Corning Rd. Corning, NY 14830-3657.

"Butch" was born January 12, 1952 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Merlin and Alberta May Krause Deats. He has lived locally since 1990, previously of Syracuse, where he worked for New Process Gear in E. Syracuse for 20 years. On July 4, 1991 in Syracuse, he married the former Donna M. Callen, they moved to Steuben County and became the owners of the "Lost & Found" Tavern in Tyrone. They worked side by side until her death on January 29, 2013. Mr. Deats was a member of the Wayne Sons of the American Legion, a former member of the Solvey Moose Lodge # 623, and the Tyrone Fire Dept. He enjoyed stock cars when he was younger, stating "I gave up fast cars to chase fast women" He is survived by a daughter Raeann M. Krause, 2 sons James P.R. Deats Jr., and Christopher Daniel Deats, all of Florida; a brother Charles (Angel) Deats of Knoxville, PA; a sister Laura "Sue" (John) Rooke of Coopers Plains, NY; a brother in law David McDowell of Central Square, NY; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his two best friends and caregivers who were by his side to the very end Carl Conklin and Rich Rexford; and his faithful friend Scooter.

Besides his wife, he was pre-deceased by a brother Merlin Deats. Arrangements were entrusted to the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, NY.
