Richard K. Jorgenson, 84, of Leeds, ND, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando. Funeral services will be Friday, April 4, 2014, 2:00 pm at North Prairie Free Lutheran Church rural Leeds with Pastor Michael Rohrer officiating and a Eulogy by Pastor Craig Wetzel. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7pm with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service and Time of Sharing at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds. Casket bearers will be: Mark Ahlberg, John Sogge, Greg Anderson, Duane Pieler, Steven Thoreson and Jon Thoreson. Music will be from Shaun Prince, vocalist, Reg and DeWayne Herman leading the congregational hymns with Laurie Morstad, pianist.

Richard Kenneth Jorgenson was born to George and Magnil (Medhus) Jorgenson on November 30, 1929 on the family farm near Leeds, ND. He was raised there, attended rural school and graduated in 1947 from Leeds High School. Richard furthered his education at NDSU in Fargo and also attended college in St. Paul, MN graduating in 1950. He returned home and farmed with his father, later assuming the operation of the family farm. Richard and Lois Carlson were married November 25, 1967 at Kenmare, ND. She died December 16, 1994. Richard later married Darlene Schapp on July 30, 1997 at Jamestown, ND.

Richard was baptized, confirmed and remained a lifelong member of North Prairie Free Lutheran Church, serving on its board as a deacon and was a member of the Gideons. He had also served on the Farmers Coop Elevator and Leeds Township Boards.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife Darlene of Cando, daughter and son-in-law Janel and Jody McGarvey, and son and daughter-in-law Eric and Chris Jorgenson - all of Leeds; 7 grandchildren: Shelby, Ricky, Cody and Caleb Jorgenson, Julissa, Jarrel and Jarrick McGarvey; 2 sisters: Betty (Pete) Thoreson of Mayville, ND and Inez (Keith) Jacobson of Rochester, MN and a number of nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his first wife Lois, parents, and 2 sisters: Ardis Oppegard and Ione Jorgenson.
