CHALKVILLE - Edna Leona Varner Bonnett, age 88, of Chalkville, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 14, 2009. She was born in the Mt. Moriah community of Coosa County on Sept. 4, 1920. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who loved to cook and care for her family. She was a long-time member of Chalkville Baptist Church. Mrs. Bonnett was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Conrad A. Bonnett; her parents, John and Cora Burks Varner; her brothers, Kenneth, Gene and Elmo Varner; and her sister, Ellen Ruth Faulkner. She is survived by her five children, Jeff (Virginia) Bonnett of Northport, Gary (Dona) Bonnett of Hartselle, Janice Bonnett of Gardendale, Don (Madelyn) Bonnett of Columbiana and Carol (Mike) Edmondson of Daphne; her five grandchildren, Autumn (Chad) Ward, Austin (Lauren) Bonnett, Byron (Tina) Bonnett, Ben Bonnett and Michael Edmondson; and six great grandchildren; her brothers, Clarence and Goldson (LaVerne) Varner; her sisters, Myrtice (Floyd) Kelly, Joyce Gravette and Ronnie (George) Zak; her sisters-in-law, Gertrude Varner and Josephine Bonnett; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-2:30 p.m. at Ridout's Trussville Chapel followed by a graveside service at Forest Crest Cemetery. Pastor Chad Ward, grandson-in-law of Mrs. Bonnett, will officiate. Ridout's Trussville Chapel directing.
