Dorothy Grace Watson, was the oldest daughter born to Edward Monroe Watson and Grace Johnston Beauchamp. When she was born on August 5, 1907 in her parents'log cabin home, it was located about five miles north of Fairfield. That cabin is now on display at the Freestone County Museum. A life-long Methodist, Dorothy was baptized by Bishop Boaz at Sunshine Methodist Church in Dew. While still a baby, Dorothy suffered a cerebral hemorrhage which left her with a partial paralysis on her left side. That handicap never kept her from doing anything she wanted to do. After the death of her mother in 1916, her father. his three children and his widowed mother-in-law moved to Stewards Mill to live with Dorothy's "Uncle and Auntie." "Uncle" being her father's older brother Charles

Dorothy attended Stewards Mill School and graduated from Teague High School in 1929. She attended Alexander Institute, now Lon Morris College, in Jacksonville, TX and received her degree from North Texas State Teachers' College in Denton,TX. After teaching school in Streetman, TX; Navarro County, TX; and Atoka County, OK; she returned to Stewards Mill to assist her father in operating the Stewards Mill Store.
On November 27, 1941, Dorothy Grace Watson and Frank Bragg were married at the home of her parents in Stewards Mill. Frank, a native of Alabama, was a peanut farmer in Donalsonville, GA. Dorothy and Frank made their home in Donalsonville and cared for his father. Dorothy also taught school in Georgia. Ed. M. Watson retired in December 1950 and Dorothy and Frank moved from Georgia
to Stewards Mill where they began operation of the historic Stewards Mill Store. They operated the store for over thirty years finally closing it in the mid-1980s when their health failed. They also operated the "D F Ranch" on land which Dorothy inherited from her father. Dorothy and Frank lived in the quarters which her father had added to the Store in the 1930s until the late 1960s when
they moved to the house which Ed. M. Watson built in 1918. Their home served as the gathering place for family and friends and they hosted many celebrations. Dorothy suffered a stroke and spent many years as an invalid; she died in this home on April 13, 1994.
It was to Dorothy that everyone turned for genealogy information. She remembered all the family connections and stories. For many years, she paid someone to maintain the Stewards Mill Cemetery. It was Dorothy who encouraged other descendants of Major Pleasant Clarke Whitaker to join the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
