Ed died March 8 at the age of 88. He was born March 24, 1918 to Edwill B. and Ruth Smith in Austin, Texas. He graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Texas. It was there he met Elizabeth Pace, whom he later married.
Ed first worked for Pan American Airways, then joined Boeing in 1956 and moved to Bellevue. As an instructor in Boeing's customer service group, he often had students from overseas. Ed greatly enjoyed his teaching assignments in India, Saudi Arabia, and elsewhere. Photography was a life-long hobby. He was active in the Boeing Camera Club and took up camera repair after retirement.
Ed leaves three siblings, Mary Virginia Darrow, J. Phillip Smith, and Dorothy Stewart; his children, Edwill L. Smith, Suzanne Smith, and Patricia Thomas; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, a sister, Giovanna Hull, and a brother, Robert Smith.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Church of the Resurrection or to the Edwill N. Smith Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas (1 University Station C2104, Austin, TX 78712).
