The dean of Mansfield attorneys is dead.

William H. Lutz, who celebrated his 100th birthday last Dec. 11, died this morning in Mansfield General Hospital where he was admitted a week ago after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. He had resided at the Woodlawn Nursing Home for the past 10 months. Prior to that he lived at Rowland Ave.

Mr. Lutz owned and operated the 160-acre Mifflin Twp. farm where he was born until a few years ago. Even when he was in his nineties and no longer active in his law practice, he commuted to work on the farm. he walked than almost daily from his home in town to the downtown sector, a jaunt of about two miles. He said then he had "too much to do" to practice law any longer.

His first move from his birthplace farm was at the age of 21 when he attended Wilkes - Barre Academy in PA for two years. He was graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, PA in 1889.
He and his brother, Samuel, who had been superintendent of schools in Hicksville, then continued their education by "reading law" with early Mansfield lawyers. These included Norman Wolfe, Capt. Brawford and George Morehouse.
The brothers completed their education at the University of Cincinnati where they were admitted as seniors because of their advanced knowledge. They began practice here almost immediately as the firm of Lutz and Lutz.

His nearest survivors are nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Wappner Funeral Home. The Rev. Lawrence Miller, pastor of Central Methodist Church of which he was a member, will officiate. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
