He was a retired rural mail carrier with the U.S. Post Office with 29 years of service, and a U.S. Marine veteran. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home, 9 a.m. until religious services at 11:30 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Milford Walters. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Kofron, Richmond, Va., and Margaret Wascom, Central; a son, Clay A. Bankston Jr., Central; three sisters, Edith Stevens, Amite, Georgia Stauner, Brantwood, Wis., and Lula Mae Gurry, New Orleans; a brother, Woodrow W. Bankston, Orange, Texas; seven grandchildren, Amanda C. Bordelon, Washington, D.C., Richard K. Bordelon, Waynesboro, Va., Woodrow E. Wascom, Baton Rouge, Matthew A. Wascom, Howard C. Wascom, Ash-Leigh E. Bankston, and Jonathan Clay Bankston, all of Central. Preceded in death by wife, Bessie Morris Bankston; parents, Desire and Mary Statham Bankston; and a brother, Jeff C. Bankston. Pallbearers will be the grandsons and nephews. He was a member of Winbourne Avenue Baptist Church, and was a past officer in the Louisiana Rural Letter Carriers Association.
