Former resident dies in Arkansas

Joseph June Ward, 70, Rogers, Ark., a former Carthage resident, died Thursday Sept. 23 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Fayetteville, Ark.

Born June 18, 1923, at New Hampton, Mo., he was a son of Cleo A. and Myrtle May Morris Ward.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a prisoner of war following the Battle of the Bulge in December, 1944. He won four Bronze Stars.

Retired owner of an auto trim service, he moved in 1972 from Carthage to Rogers vicinity.

Survivors include his wife Goldie Ellen of the home; three daughters Connie Schooling, Springdale, Ark.; Carolyn Rose and Cheryl Stansell, both Rogers; his mother Myrtle Riley, Joplin; two sisters Dorothy Foraker, Miami, Okla., and Loretta McBride, Carthage; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers Billy, Jack, Olen, Cecil and Maxi Ward and two sisters Helen Lynn and Artist Buus.

Funeral services were scheduled at 1 p.m. today at the Callison-Lough Funeral Home, Rogers, with burial in the National Cemetery, Fayetteville.
