Herald Coaster, February 10, 1997:

Funeral services for Arnold M. Witte were held on Sunday, Feb. 9, at the First United Methodist Church of Needville. Reverend Bob Morgan officiated the service. Burial was at Immanuel United Church of Christ Cemetery. The Needville Volunteer Fire Department provided an Honor Guard in recognition of his years of service to that organization.

Mr. Witte, a long-time resident of Needville, died on Friday, Feb. 7, 1997, at Tremont Health Care Center in Houston. He was born to Willie and Annie Witte in Wallis on Sept. 21, 1911. He married Helen Meier on March 19, 1939. They were married 55 years when she passed away in 1994.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sadie Jane Elolf Witte and a son, Donald Witte. Of his brothers and sisters, he was preceded by Erich Witte and survived by Earnest Witte, Bob Witte, Gladys Brenner, and Pearl Backhus.

His surviving children and their spouses are Robert and Ruth Witte of Sugar Land, Edwin and Margaret Witte Thuesen of Houston, Bruce and Betty Witte of Cyoress, and Larry Wolfson and Maxine Witt of Hosuston; grandchildren, Robert and Ross Witte of Houston, Brian Thuesen and his wife, Colleen, of Houston, Kevin Thuesen and his wife, Erika of Denton, Zachary William and Thomas Witte of Cypress, and Jennifer and Kimberly Sheffield of Houston.

After over thirty years as member and Fire Chief of the Needville Volunteer Fire Department, he continued in his retirement as Fire Marshall of Needville. His favorite pastimes included fishing and dominoes.

He will be deeply missed by his family who encourage that donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimer's Foundation, or the First United Methodist Church.
