Pioneer Church Worker Dies at Monroe Friday

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the Monroe South ward chapel for Arthur Whiting, who passed away Wednesday after a lingering illness.


Bishop Melbourn DeMill presided at the services. Speakers were Joseph A. Smith, Heber Swindle, Wilford Hansen and Benjamin Gardner, who paid high tributes of respect to this pioneer church worker and beloved citizen. Musical selections were given by the ward choir a violin solo was rendered by Edwin Whiting, son of the deceased, with Mrs. Madge Magleby at the piano, and a duet by Mrs. Ora Hunt and Thomas Ransom. Heber Magleby offered the invocation, and the benediction was by N. H. Nielson,


The beautiful array of flowers were carried by the Relief society members. A long line of cars followed to the cemetery where C. A. White dedicated the grave


Arthur Whiting was born at Manti December 23, 1860, a son of Edwin and Mary Cox Whiting. He took active part in the pioneering of Utah and Arizona


He married Melissa Lee Master and they moved from Arizona to Monroe 26 years ago. He was a taxidermist by occupation


Besides the widow the following children survive; Wm. Whiting of Heber City, Lee and Edwin Whiting of Elsinore, Mrs. Carrie Starley of Holbrook, Arizona and Mrs. Mae Ball of Monroe. Fourteen grandchildren; three brothers, John Whiting of Charleston, Edgar P. Whiting of Mapleton and Edwin Whiting of Arizona and one sister, Mrs. Abbie Bird of Mapleton, also survive.
