Judy was born in Stockton, California, where she was the eldest of five children. She graduated from St. Mary's High School and left Stockton at the age of 18 to attend Cosmetology College in San Francisco and became a hairdresser. Judy met her husband Jose Luis Padilla while in San Francisco. They were married on July 1, 1959, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in San Francisco. Lou and Judy renewed their marriage vows on their 25th anniversary in 1984 surrounded by their three sons Joseph, Mark and Anthony and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2009 surrounded by their sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren.
In the late 1960's Judy pursued her love for children and became a paraprofessional for the San Francisco Unified School District. This led to her lifelong passion of teaching middle school children. She ended her lengthy career as an educator at Francisco Middle School.
