Jane Spencer married Joseph Peatfield on 26 June 1802 at St. Mary Church, Nottingham. Joseph emigrated from Arnold, Nottinghamshire, England to Philadelphia around 1830; his wife Jane and youngest son John soon followed. They settled in Schuylkill county, Pennsylvania. He became a coal lands investor there. John eventually moved to Ipswich, Massachusetts, where his brothers James and Sanford owned a woolen mill, and where his brother Joseph, Jr. and sister Mary lived. The father Joseph died sometime between 1850 and 1855, and is buried in St. Clair, Pennsylvania. After his death, Jane moved to Ipswich and lived with her son Sanford until her death.
