OBITUARY-
AUSTIN -- The funeral for Earl W. "Scotty" Blowers will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Austin with the Rev. Becky Jo Thilges officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Blowers, 92, of 700 First Drive N.W., a retired longtime Austin fireman, died Tuesday (Aug. 19, 1997) at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

Born Oct. 20, 1904, in Lansing Township, Mower County, he grew up in Austin and attended Austin public schools. On Jan. 19, 1931, he married Ellen Louise Kingen in Austin. Mr. Blowers was a member of the Austin Fire Department for 44 years and served as chief for five years before his retirement in 1970. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, served on its finance committee and was a member of the Austin Kiwanis Club, a lifetime member of International Fire Chiefs and Minnesota Fire Chiefs, served on the board of directors of Cedar Valley Rehabilitation Workshop for 20 years, and was a member of Cedar Valley Conservation Club and National Rifle Association. He was an American Red Cross first aid instructor, a member of Company H of the National Guard, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and photography.

Survivors include two daughters, DeLila "Dee" Erickson and DeVonne "Debbie" (Mrs. Robert V.) Smith, both of Austin; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond of Austin. He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant daughter, and six brothers and sisters.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
