LaVar Hyrum Ashton 1931 - 2009

LaVar H. Ashton died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the Utah State Veterans Nursing Home after a four-year decline caused from a stroke. We would like to thank the staff at the Veterans Nursing Home for all their kindness and wonderful care. Born in Malad, Idaho May 31, 1931 to James Lehi and Jane Thorpe Ashton. Married his sweetheart, Ora Stewart on December 19, 1953. LaVar worked 35 years for Steve Regan Company. Preceded in death by his wife Ora; his son George LaVar, his brothers, Wilford and Elton; his sisters, Annabel, Josephine, Irene, Veda and Aida. Survived by his children, Terry (Robin) of Salt Lake City; Vonnie (Wes) and Lora (Kent) both of South Jordan; his brother, Floyd (Sarah) of Chula Vista, CA; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog Gidget. A visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 16 from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South in Sandy; followed by Graveside Services.
