Wayne E. Thomas, 77, of Dahlonega passed away Wednesday April 30, 2014 at Emory Johns Creek Hospital following a period of declining health.

Born July 27, 1936 in Blairsville, GA to the late Rev. Loy and Evia Thomas, he had been a resident of Dahlonega for the past year after living in Gilmer County from 2000 until 2013. He had also previously lived in Lilburn, Georgia. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville and U.S. Army Veteran who served from 1959 until 1965. He retired after 30 years of service with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company where he worked as a computer systems trainer. A devoted husband and father, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Verdell M. Thomas.

Surviving is his son, Rev. Keith and Cerena Thomas, Dahlonega; sisters in law, Nina Moss, Dahlonega, Opal Mincey Beaver, Lilburn; grandchildren, Timothy Thomas, Laura Thomas; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were held Monday May 5, 2014 at 11 o'clock at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville. Dr. Jim Gaines officiated. Interment was in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Young Harris, Georgia at 3 o'clock.
