Gordon J. "Gordie" Goyette, 75, of La Crosse, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in La Crosse on June 10, 1938, to Ambrose, Sr., and Ellen (Culbert) Goyette.

Gordie grew up on French Island and attended Logan High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on April 13, 1956. He served his country valiantly during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff-Sergeant on December 9, 1970. After serving his country, he worked for Torrance Foundry until his retirement in 2001. He married Lois Clements on December 26, 1956, in La Crosse; they had three children and later divorced. Gordie married Shirley Smith on November 4, 1972, in La Crosse and helped raise her four children to adulthood.

In his retirement, Gordie enjoyed golfing and the guys at Walsh's Golf Course. He enjoyed bowling on a senior league at Pla-Mor Lanes, playing cards with friends, and visiting the area casinos. Gordie closely followed the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. He loved to travel but most of all, he loved his family and friends and their get-togethers. He was a member of the Moose Family Center Lodge #1920 and the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52, both of La Crosse. Gordie was a great friend to everyone and did all he could to help them out when the need arose. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of La Crosse; two daughters, Christal Borck of Sheboygan Falls, Wis., and Lori (James) Williams of Stoddard, Wis.; two sons, Keith Goyette of Coon Valley, Wis., and Mike Goyette of La Crosse; three step-children, Jeff Selbrede of Galesville, Wis., Colleen (Keith) Eary of Ohio, and Cheryl Selbrede of La Crosse; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Raymond (Kris) of California, Eugene of West Salem, Wis., and Alden of Melrose, Wis.; one sister, Geraldine (Leo) Lusk of Onalaska; three sisters-in-law, Eileen Goyette, Mary Goyette, and Jeannette Goyette; many nieces and nephews; and his last loyal companion and best friend, Sandy, his yellow lab.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, George, Gerald, Ambrose, Jr., Harold, and Frederick; and his first wife, Lois.

Burial will be in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery, La Crosse,
