Marlyn Carrell, 81, of Dumas, died Monday, May 5, 2014.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014, in First Christian Church in Dumas with Darrell Wait, senior pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox Ave.

Marlyn was born May 10, 1932, in Cooper to Edward and Estelle Carrell. He married DeAnna Scott on July 18, 1975, in Dumas at First Christian Church.

He retired from Valero after 35 years of service and owned Quick Lube. Marlyn enjoyed children, his grandchildren in particular, playing softball, helping out at his church, traveling and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Gene; and a granddaughter, Rebecca Lopez.

Survivors include his wife DeAnna Carrell of Dumas; three sons, Joe Carrell of Nederland, Harold Evanson of Dumas and Wayne Evanson of Spearman; four daughters, Cookie Murrax of Part Arthur, Belinda Swimmer and Lori VanLeer, both of Dumas and Karla Carrell of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to First Christian Church, Scholarship Fund, 423 S Maddox Ave, Dumas, TX 79029.
