Fred Buess and Henrietta Koerner were married in Wolfenbuttel Germany. They were the parents of 15 children: Albert remained in Germany; Annie married Fred Summers (four children); Mary married Amos Shubert (four children); Robert never married; Emma married Herbert Loomes (two children); Erny died, age three years; Fred married Mary Wagner (five children); Martha married Frank Pertuisot (two chil- dren); son died; daughter Jeanne married W.L. Miles; Frank died; Martha married Henry Pertuisot; Helen married Joe Gutz; Carl died age four; Otto married Martha Koenig (two children); Elizabeth died aged six months; Minnie married Joe Hill; William married Elizabeth Reinhardt (two children); Hattie married Frank Robinson; Wm. and Hattie born in United States, The other 13 children born in Germany.
The Buess's came to America in 1883 and lived in St. Louis. Mr. Buess worked for Gottard Gro. Co. for two years. In 1887 they bought a farm east of Lively Grove, where Wm. and Hattie were born. Mr. Buess died in January 1889.
In 1905 Otto came to America as he stayed with an aunt in Germany until he came to America. He later became a Methodist Minister. From 1924-25 he served at Tilden, Illinois, and German North Prairie, Methodist Church. Martha Buess Pertuisot lived to be 97 years, when she died in Coulterville, Illinois, at the home of her daughter and son- in-law, Jeanne and W.L. Miles, June 28, 1972.
Some members of the family moved to California, St. Louis, Mo., Northern Illinois, and New Orleans. They were Lutherans.
