June Hunter Council, passed away at Halcyon Hospice in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday, Dec 7. A funeral service will be held Friday, Dec 14, at 1 p.m. at St David's Episcopal Church, 1015 Old Roswell Road, Roswell, GA 30076. A Reception will follow in Jeffords Hall. Family and friends will also be received afterward at the home of Lee and Dave Bruggeman.
She is survived by her husband of nine years, Charlie Council, of Merrill Gardens in Roswell and daughter, Lyn Hunter of Fayetteville, Georgia, daughter and son-in-law, Lee Hunter and David Bruggeman of Roswell, and grandchild, Will Bruggeman. Her three surviving siblings are Max Council of Albany, Georgia, Glenda Council Beall of Hayesville, NC and Gay Council Moring of Roswell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Coy Lee and Lois Robison Council, husband of 25 years E. Stanley Hunter, brothers, C. Ray Council, Rex A. Council, Hal A. Council.
June was born in Mitchell County, Georgia, June 25, 1924, but grew up in Albany, Georgia, and attended school in Dougherty County. She graduated from Albany High School in the class of 1941 and attended college at Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA.
She had a generous spirit and enjoyed the success of others, especially her family. Being oldest of seven children, she felt a large responsibility for them, and left college before she completed her degree in education, to help with financial support. She had an artist's talent for drawing and writing. One of her gifts to those who knew her was her unending compassion and her beautiful smile that endeared her to everyone she met.
June had worked in civil service and lived in Newport News, Virginia, Montgomery, Alabama, Arlington, Virginia and in Atlanta were she worked as an Executive Secretary for the Veteran's Administration and The Communicable Disease Center.
In later years after her husband passed away in Boone, NC, June returned to Albany where she became a working partner at Hercules Bumpers, Inc. the Council family-owned manufacturing plant in Pelham, Georgia. She managed the Customer Service Department and later became Credit Manager for Hercules. For a couple of years June lived in Dallas, Texas where she managed a distribution warehouse for the business. She was also a partner in Council Farms, Inc.
