Jack Barnett, 66, 134 Cripple Creek Loop, Watauga, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at his residence.

Mr. Barnett was a native of Poplar, N.C., and a son of the late Pearl and Mack Barnett. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Park Barnett.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, he spent a number of years in Baltimore, Md., being employed at Glenn L. Martin Company and Eastern Stainless Steel Company. He retired from Kennametal in Johnson City. He attended Watauga Baptist Church and Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jean (Lewis) Barnett, Watauga; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jackie and Betsy Barnett, Elizabethton, and Randall Barnett, U.S. Navy, Lemoore, Calif.; two grandchildren, Lessa and Annie Barnett, Frankfort, Ky.; two sisters, Madge Buchanan and Shirley Tipton, both of Erwin; two brothers, R.I. Barnett, Nancy, Ky., and Clint Barnett, Poplar, N.C.; and a special friend, Jackie Allen. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

BARNETT -- Funeral services for Jack Barnett, 66, 134 Cripple Creek Loop, Watauga, who died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, March 17, from the chapel of Valley Funeral Home with Rev. Art Webb and Rev. Jackie Cole officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Lewis Family Cemetery. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are requested to meet at the funeral home at 9:10 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Ray Wilhelm, Michael Potter, Mitch Potter, J.W. Street Jr., Jerry Walls and Jerry Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be James McKinney, Randy Ellis, Charles Wilhelm, Don DeHaven, Fred Lewis, Dean Stevens, the men of Watauga Baptist Church and the men of Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church. To those who desire, donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Tennessee, 1808 West End Avenue, Suite 514, Nashville, Tenn. 37203. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence, 134 Cripple Creek Loop, Watauga. Valley Funeral Home, 1085 North Main Street, Erwin, is in charge of arrangements.
