Walter Leslie Holtsclaw, 78, a retired farmer and long-time resident of Baxter, died at 5:30 pm Thursday at his home in Baxter.

Mr. Holtsclaw has been in failing health since suffering a heart attack four years ago. He had been confined to his home for the past eight months.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday at the Baxter Congregational Christian Church. The Rev. Harry E. Boughey, pastor of the church, will conduct the services and burial will be in Restland cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lowell Perry, Orvin Perry, Lewis Halter, Ralph Kreager, Charles Butler and Gordon Shockley.

Mrs. Donnell Deutsch, the organist, accompanied the singers, Mrs. Douglas Deutsch and Mrs. Max Butler.

In charge of flowers were Mrs. Gordon Shockley, Mrs. William VanZante and Mrs. Hale Nickell.

Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Mr. Holtsclaw is survived by his wife; two sons, Raymond C. Holtsclaw and Loy W. Holtsclaw of Baxter, three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Tillie) Brittain of Rhodes, Mrs. Noland (Ada) Schmidt of Newton and Mrs. Delbert (Ora) Fanning of Golden City, Mo.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, Rollie, Ellis and Guy of Dixon, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. Frank(Elizabeth) Snyder of St. Petersburg, Fla.

He was preceded in death by a son.

The son of William and Mary Holtsclaw, he was born near Collins Jan. 8, 1878. Mr. Holtsclaw was educated in rural schools.

After his marriage to Letha Rose April 8, 1900 at Collins, he lived in Story and Jasper counties until 1929 when he moved to Lamar, Mo.

In 1930 he moved to Dixon, Mo., returning to Baxter in 1937. He was employed by the state highway commission in 1938 and 1939.
