Ted Duchac, Antigo, died Friday, Feb 7, 2003, at the home of his nephew, Robert, under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. He was 102 years old. One of Antigo's older and more colorful residents until quite recently he could be seen traversing the sidewalks along Superior Street with a cart filled with groceries en route to his Badger Avenue home. He was born on August 28, 1900, in Antigo, a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Dvorak) Duchac. On October 7, 1967, he married Frances Wells in Chicago. She survives. Mr. Duchac graduated from Antigo High School in 1919. He lived in several locations in the United States, including Chicago for 25 years, before returning to Antigo in 1986.
He was employed as a draftsman by the Pure Oil Co., and in the engineering department of UNOCAL Oil Co. Mr. Duchac participated in the construction of Chicago's elevated train system and several oil fields in Texas. In his youth he worked to erect circus tents.
An amateur artist, Mr. Duchac was especially fond of drawing cartoons. In addition to his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Duchac was preceded in death by his first wife Rosemary Barrett, three sisters and six brothers in addition to his parents. A memorial service will be held in the spring. The Strasser-Roller Funderal Home is assisting the family with arrangements."
