Mrs. Martha Jane Bales, 84, resident of the Milner Hotel, Danville, Ill., died at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Elizabeth hospital where she had been a patient for four months.
Mrs. Bales operated the Bales Garage in Kingman for many years, and moved to Danville about 20 years ago. A son, Guy, died in World War I.
She was born Aug. 8, 1862, in Paxton, a daughter of John and Nancy Boyd Roberts. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Jewell Whyte Auxiliary and St. James Methodist Church.
Surviving is a cousin, Mrs. Sciota Toler of Danville, and an aunt, Mrs. Rachel Hadley, Kingman. Her husband and son preceded her in death.
Burial was made in Harveysburg Cemetery Friday afternoon.
