Alice L. Ash, 71, of 2020 106th Ave. West, Milan, died Wednesday at Franciscan Medical Center, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Island, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Monson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurses and Homemakers Association of Rock Island County.

Pallbearers will be Vincent Dasso, Ray Botch, Kenneth Shields, Fred Cook, Robert Burlingame and Ted Nelson.

The former Alice Anderson was born March 25, 1914, in Geneva, Ill., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Anderson. She attended Geneva schools and graduated from Augustana College.

She married Lynn L. Ash on April 10, 1938, in Geneva.

Mrs. Ash was employed as a substitute and special education teacher with the Rock Island public school system for 15 years.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Priscilla Circle of Lutheran Church Women; past president of Chapter BK, PEO, and Allegiance Circle of King's Daughters; past president of Rock Island County United Church Women; past member of the board of directors of the Rock Island County Association of Retarded Children and Adults; former director of the Illowa Horsemen's Club; and former member of the Endowment Society at Augustana College.

Surviving are her husband; a son, James of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald Kuhn of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Quentin Preston of Ankeney, Iowa.

Sisterhood and Rock Island County Church Women United; former member of the board of directors of the Rock Island County Association of Retarded Children and Adults; and a former director of Illowa Horseman's Club.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Carolyn Kuhn, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; a son, James L., Santa Barbara, Calif.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Quentin (Maxine) Preston, Ankeny, Iowa.

At an impressive ceremony at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the Geneva, Ill., Lutheran church, Miss Alice L. Anderson of Rock Island, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Anderson of Geneva, exchanged marriage vows with Lynn L. Ash, son of Mr. and Mrs. S.T. Ash, 1042 Seventeenth street, Rock Island, in the presence of a large assembly of relatives and friends.

The vows were recited before an altar adorned with Easter lilies, palms and candelabra. Huge baskets of flowers added to the attractiveness of the setting.

Preceding the reading of the single-ring ceremony by the Rev. Carl A. Glad, pastor, nuptial music was played at the organ by Mrs. Carl A. Glad of Geneva. Mrs. William V. Kinney of Rock Island, a sorority sister of the bride, sang "Because" and "O Promise Me," and as the couple knelt at the altar, the hymn, "O, Perfect Love," was sung softly.

The bride approached the altar with her father, who gave her in marriage.

Dale F. Ash of Clinton, Iowa, served his brother as best man. Ushers were William V. Kinney of Rock Island and Donald Leonhard of Milwaukee, Wis., fraternity brothers of the bridegroom, and Donald Eckman of Maywood, Ill., a cousin of the bride.

After April 17 the couple will be at home in a newly furnished apartment at 1545 1/2 Twenty-ninth-and-a-half street, Rock Island.

Mrs. Ash is a graduate of the Geneva high school and attended Augustana college where she was affiliated with Kappa Tau sorority. For the last two years she has been secretary to Dr. Arthur Wald, dean of the college.

Mr. Ash was graduated from the Aledo, Ill., high school and Augustana college. While in college he was associated with Beta Omega Sigma fraternity. He is now a member of the editorial staff of The Argus.
