Leslie E. Peterson, 88, of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Orange City Area Hospital.
Visitation for the public will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Earnest-Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A private family funeral service will take place on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the Earnest-Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. Burial will follow at Marcus Amherst Cemetery.
Leslie Elmer Peterson was born on March 13, 1926, near Alta, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Pearl (Partridge) Peterson. He attended Fairview School near Alta. Following his education, Les worked at a local lumber yard, assisted neighbors with farming, and worked as a carpenter.
On August 3, 1952, Les and Mary Broblek were united in marriage at Marcus, Iowa. They made their home on a farm near Marcus. Together they farmed and raised cattle and hogs for 38 years. Shortly after their marriage, Les also worked as an auto mechanic at Gray's Garage. They retired in 1989 and moved into Marcus.
Les was a member of the Marcus Historical Society. In his retirement years Les enjoyed caning furniture that Mary had refinished. He moved to the Heartland Care Center on December 21, 2013.
Les will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Mary Peterson of Marcus; a son and his wife, Don and Dianne Peterson of Ankeny, Iowa; three sisters, Roselyn and Arthur Dahl of Alta, Marge Shewell of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Doris Stange of Alta; a brother, Edwin and Shirley Peterson of Alta; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
