Enlisted as a Captain (date unknown), he mustered into "C" Co. MS 2nd
Battalion State Troops Infantry. Died in service.

The 2nd Infantry Battalion was organized at Jackson, Mississippi, during
the summer of 1861 with five companies, later increased to six. Ordered
to Virginia, the battalion was assigned to General Garland's and
Featherston's Brigade and in April, 1862 totalled 360 men. It was
prominent in the campaigns of the army from Williamsburg to Sharpsburg.
Then in Novemer, 1862, additional companies joined the unit, and it
became the 48th Mississippi Regiment.
