On January 18, 1939, Marie was born in Knox County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harry G. and Helen P. (Morrison) Day. She graduated from South Bloomfield High School in Sparta in the Class of 1957, where she was a cheerleader and crowned homecoming queen her senior year.
For over 30 years, she worked for North Electric in Galion, which later became Sprint, in their human resources department.
A woman of faith, Marie was a long time member of the Mount Gilead Nazarene Church. She served in many ways there including treasurer, Sunday school teacher and a youth leader. More recently she had attended Fresh Faith Community Church of the Nazarene in Mount Gilead.
Marie relaxed by playing Solitaire and other games on her computer. She enjoyed collecting Hummel figurines and listening to the Gaither's. She loved watching the Cleveland Indians and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Marie was a dog lover, always taking care of at least one. She also had a bit of a sweet tooth, enjoying a Little Debbie Nutty Bar whenever she could.
She will always be remembered fondly by her family for her loving and caring ways, and for her fun, dry sense of humor.
Marie will be missed dearly by her daughter, Tamara Johnson of Delaware; three grandchildren: Eric, Brooks, and Brandon Johnson, all of Delaware; and two brothers: Robert Day of North Richland Hills, TX and Garry (Patsy) Day of Raleigh, NC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, George Howard in 1987, and John Doran in 2009.
Marie's family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating her life will be held there at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, with Celebrant Don Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Cardington.
Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead are honored to have been chosen to serve Marie's family.
