ERNEST M. SLAVEN
Mr. Ernest M. Slaven, a former resident of Highland County, died at the home of his son, Mr. Lacy Slaven at Frankford West Va., on Tuesday evening March 27th, after an illness of several months. Mr. Slaven was born on Aug. 21, 1855, being in his 79th year. In the year 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Lula Johnston ,a sister of Harry S. and Paris Johnston, she having died nearly twenty seven years ago. To this union was born ten children, all of whom survive: G. C. Slaven, Mrs. M. B. Gladden of Frankford West Va. Mrs. C. F. Belz of Sheffield, Pa., Francis Kenton, Homer, and Kyle Slaven of Cass, W. Va., McClintic and Arthur Slaven of Baltimore, Md., and Lacy Slaven of Frankford. Mr. Slaven lived for a number of years at Vanderpool, Va., where he conducted a Boot and Shoe Shop, and he was regarded as an "Artist" in this line of work, and many are the folks in our county who remember going to his "shop" to have his measure taken for a pair of fancy dress boots. Moving from here to West Virginia a number of years ago, where he has since made his home. Also surviving Mr. Slaven, a sister, Mrs. O. J. Campbell of Monterey and one brother, Mr. R. Bernard Slaven of Marlinton, W. Va. Funeral services will be held from Trinity Church at Vanderpool on Friday afternoon with interment in the family cemetery nearby.
