Dr. Ruby Pearl Laurence Morris, 87, former Thornton resident, and native of Limestone County, passed away January 2, 2006, in Topeka, Kansas, where she had lived since 2003. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, in Thornton at the Blair-Stubbs Chapel. Interment will be at Thornton Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Groesbeck Church of Christ.

Dr. Morris retired in 1988 from the Dallas Independent School District as Deputy Associate Superintendent for Student Services, after 43 years of service. She was a recognized leader in the field of education, especially for her work related to the advancement and empowerment of women and girls.

She was married to M.B. Morris, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Marion Beth Cott and her husband, Ken; and granddaughter, Amanda Marion Cott, of Topeka, Kansas.
