David Lee Milam, 63, of North Canton, OH, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, of ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease).

He was born December 1, 1950 in Indianapolis, IN. He was the son of the late L. June Milam and the late Willis E. Milam. Dave is survived by his wife Patricia, whom he married on November 3, 1979; children, Jeremy (Lindsay) Milam of Willowick, OH and Adrienne (Juan) Alvarado of Naperville, IL; grandson, Nathan Milam; and sister, Linda Dimit of Indianapolis, IN.

Dave was a proud graduate of Elementary School #92 and Arlington High School Class of 1969 in Indianapolis, IN. He was state champion in high school wrestling, played football, and threw the shot put.

He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Engineering from Brown University in June 1973, a Master of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Purdue University in May 1975, and a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from Purdue University in March 1978.

Dave moved to Canton, OH to work at The Timken Company as a Research Metallurgical Engineer, a position he held from August 1978 until May 2009. He holds several US patents and was a member of ASM International (American Society of Metals).

Dave earned the rank of Eagle Scout from Boy Scout Troop 88 in Indianapolis, IN and volunteered with Troop 12 in North Canton, OH in the 1990s. In retirement, he was involved in several organizations, including working as an AARP volunteer tax aide, as an Aultman Hospital Hospice Volunteer, a volunteer for outings at St. Luke Lutheran Community, the Readable History Book Club at the North Canton Public Library, and an informal chat group at Belden Village Mall.

In addition, he was a lector and usher at St. Paul Catholic Church in North Canton, OH and was a member of Men's Club. He was a member of CFM (Christian Family Movement) and Marriage Encounter DSG Dave enjoyed ballroom dancing, golf, and bocce.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014 in the Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel (801 Pittsburg Ave. NW) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Christ the Servant Parish, 833 39th St. NW, Canton, Ohio 44709 at 10:00 a.m. with Msgr. James A. Clarke as celebrant. Following services, in keeping with Dave's wishes, he will be cremated and buried at North Canton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Luke Lutheran Community - Activities Department (200 Applegrove St. NE, North Canton, OH 44720).
