WORLD WAR II
Son of Peter Barber and Gertrude Barber.
Casualty of attack on Pearl Harbor. The bodies of the Barber brothers remain entombed in the sunken battleship USS Oklahoma.
The fact the boys were on the same ship was partly by their choice. Leroy and Malcolm enlisted in the Navy on May 8, 1940. After basic training, Leroy was assigned to the Oklahoma and Malcolm to the USS Colorado. Randolph enlisted several months later, and he was assigned to the Colorado. The boys communicated regularly and Leroy told them about how good duty was on the Oklahoma. They were reunited when Malcolm was transferred to the Oklahoma on Aug. 27, 1940, and Randolph joined them on Nov. 11, 1940. Both had requested the moves.
