J. Eugene Barlett, 78, of Knox, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Northwest Medical Center in Franklin after an extended illness. Born Oct. 23, 1922, in Knox, he was the son of John A. and Eleanor Rensel Barlett. Mr. Barlett was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army's 86th Signal Corps Black Hawk Division in both the European and Asian theaters. He had been employed by Penelec for 34 years before retiring as district manager in Knox in 1981. Mr. Barlett was a member and ordained elder of Edenburg Presbyterian Church in Knox. He was a 50 year member of F&AM Edenburg Lodge #550 in Knox and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Oil City. He also belonged to the National Rifle Association, Antique Automobile Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, and American Legion Berlin-Bowser Post 720 of Knox. He was married in 1950 to the former Dorothy Wetzel, who survives. Also surviving are a son, James Barlett; a daughter, Gloria J. Saylor and her husband, Melvin W. Saylor, of Knox; and a grand daughter, Nemah Lee Saylor. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barlett was preceded in death by an infant sister. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and
7 to 9 p.m. today at the David C. McEntire Funeral Home in Knox. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jay Montgomery, pastor of Edenburg Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment
will follow in Knox Union Cemetery.
