Capt. Nicolas Brown was the son of Nicolas and Lucy (Lamper) Brown. He was the husband of Jane (Little) Brown. "He belonged to a sea-faring family and was one of eight brothers, all of whom were successful ship masters. He commanded the first ship belonging in Newburyport that doubled Cape Horn." He died at sea of yellow fever in the West Indies.
