for Bettye Jean Bracamonte, 75, formerly of Bakersfield and Taft, who passed away suddenly December 25 while spending the holidays in Portland, OR.
She is preceded in death by her husband, well-known local grocer, Ernie Bracamonte; togethery they owned and operated Center Markets in Bakersfield & Pumpkin Center.
A resident of Coeur dAlene, Idaho, Bettye was born in Gould, Oklahoma, June 26, 1927, and worked in the retail and services industries much of her life.
Semi-retired, she was very active in community charity organizations and events and was a long-time member of the Coeur dAlene Chorus of Sweet Adelines International.
She participated in chorus competitions in the Pacific Northwest and Europe.
Bettye is survived by her children, Lorri Alexander and husband, David Tisler, Jenner, CA, Gary Alexander, Englewood, CO, Stacey Alexander, Coeur dAlene, and Diane Jana Campbell of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Erma Lee and Frank Hunter, Dripping Springs, TX; cousin, Nona Haskew, Springfield, MO; grandchildren, SSgt. Caleb Antrim, and wife, Cori, McCord AFB, WA, Danielle Clegg, and Mark Alexander, both of Bakersfeld, and Ashleigh Campbell, Colorado Springs; great-grandson, Aidan Antrim; brother-in-law, Al Bracamonte, and wife, Carol, Bakersfield.
