John C. Larkin, Jr., M.D, age 95, died peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr.and Mrs. John C. Larkin, Sr. (Helen), his two brothers, Gerald J. Larkin, and Elton E. Larkin, Sr., and his sister-in-law, Gloria M. Larkin. He is survived by three nephews, Elton E. Larkin, Jr. (Tina), Charles (Tucker) Larkin, M.D. (Peggy), Stephen N. Larkin (Kathie), three nieces, Libba Nance (Dwain), Helen Larkin, Jeanne Ayres, and twelve grand-nieces and nephews. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee, Memphis and practiced Pulmonary medicine with the Memphis Veterans Administration Hospital until his retirement. He then served as the Tuberculosis specialist for the West Tennessee Health Department. A World War II veteran, he served in the United States Army Medical Corp., leaving with an honorable discharge. He was an accomplished equestrian, loved to play bridge, and work in his garden. Traveling around the world, he became a connoisseur of fine dining and always enjoyed a good meal with family and friends. An avid reader, he made weekly trips to the library. He was a loving, caring and generous man. One of his great pleasures was collecting antiques and sharing stories about their history with his family. His last years were spent at the Villages of Germantown, and he was very active in all aspects of retirement village life. The family wants to thank his outstanding caregivers from Visiting Angels who loved caring for him and keeping him comfortable. Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m. at Canale Funeral Directors on Tuesday, April 29th. There will be a private graveside service at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorials be sent to the Monsignor Clunan Endowment Fund at St. Louis Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
