Francis R. "Bob" Adzima, 81, widower of Sheila Alice (Poirier) Adzima, father and patriarch, passed from this life to life eternal on Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut. He was born July 16, 1929 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, son of the late Frank and Sue (Mindzora) Adzima and grew up in Bridgeport, CT. He joined the United States Marine Corps after graduating from College of the Holy Cross. After boot camp he was assigned to Camp LeJeune as a pay records clerk where he met the woman that became his wife, Sheila A. (Poirier). They were married May 22, 1954, and he was honorably discharged from the Marines, Jan. 20, 1954 at the rank of Sergeant. The couple moved to Trumbull, Connecticut, later that year, where Sheila was a stay at home mom and raised five children. The family moved to New Britain in 1977. He worked as a Photo Finisher for Frank's Photo Service in Bridgeport and later New Britain Camera Shop.
Bob was a communicant of St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church. Bob and Sheila were married for 56 years. A loving and devoted father and grandfather, he is survived and will be missed by his loving children: Sharon Sforza and her husband Robert of Milford, Connecticut, Jeffrey Adzima and his wife Barbara of San Diego, California, Robert Adzima and his wife Pamela of Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, Roger Adzima and his wife Kitty of Loganville, Georgia and Melissa Thomas and her husband Kevin of New Britain. He is also survived by fifteen treasured grandchildren, Ryan, Timothy, Gregory, Kathryn, Lindsay, Lucas and Christopher Adzima and Francis Robert Adzima II, Jeremy and Adam Sforza, Terra, Kyle, Devin and Thomas, Nicholas and Daniel Lovett and five precious great-grandchildren, Danika, Lucien, Amanda and Zachary Adzima and Steven Lovett. He also leaves a sister, Frances (Aggie) Scholz and her husband William.
Funeral services will begin on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 8AM from the New Britain Memorial-Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial 9:00am in St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church, 1010 Slater Road, New Britain, with full military honors following the church services. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours at the funeral home are Friday, May 20, 2011, 4-8PM.
