Abbie S. Wells was born September 13th, 1837, in Brownhelm, Ohio, and died August 22d, 1883.
November 29th, 1860, at the age of 23, she was married to Frederick H. Bacon. She was the mother of nine children, seven of whom are now living, four boys and three girls. Little Fred at the age of fourteen months, and Annie at the age of sixteen years, preceded their mother to the spirit world.
A faithful wife and a devoted mother will be missed in this home, and a good neighbor by the community. Though not a member of the church she was usually there and took an active part in the Sabbath-school. She often prayed with her children and was anxious for them to lead a Christian life. For the past four months she has been a great sufferer from a complicated form of disease, chiefly of the heart and ending in dropsy. Her patience was remarkable, and no word of complaint escaped her. Her loved ones left nothing untried for her safety and comfort; but alas, all earthly ties must be broken, and finally after bidding all farewell she quietly sank to rest on the morning of August 22d, 1882 [sic: 1883]. May her prayers be answered and the blessings of God rest upon that bereaved home.
The funeral, conducted by Rev. M. D. Chilson, was held at the residence in Brownhelm, and was very largely attended, after which the remains of the deceased were interred in a vault in the cemetery at the center.
