Varina was the daughter of William Farmer Braithwaite and Mary Sophia Grove. She and Camillus were married for 78 years.

At the time of her death, she was survived by her husband and five daughters, Mrs. Lilia Angell, Mrs. Mae DeHaven, Mrs. Carrie Gunn, Mrs. Melba Donelan, and Mrs. Hazel Funkhouser, as well as five sons, Zeilor G. Baker, Walter E. Baker, William R. Baker, Dale Baker, and Ray L. Baker. Also, 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. His son Samuel died during World War I.
