Hans B. Helgeson was born in Moe township, Douglas county on June 13, 1888, the son of Andrew and Elina Helgeson. He grew to manhood on the home farm in LaGrande township and served in the Armed Services in World War I, spending much of the time overseas. He was united in marriage to Selma Angen. After their marriage they farmed in LaGrande township, later Mr. Helgeson retired, because of his health and came to Alexandria. On November 4, 1960 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Evelyn Froemming For the past five years they made their home on Maple Lake near Forada. Mr. Helgeson died at his home on Monday, Feb. 7, 1966 at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 24 days. Surviving him are his wife, Evelyn; two step-daughters and three step-sons: Muriel (Mrs. Owen Sletto), Allien (Mrs. Clarence Peterson) and Duane, Rolland and Eugene Froemming. Also surviving is one foster son, Donald Smestad. He was preceded in death by his first wife and a step-son, Laurel. Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 11, 196 at 2 p.m. from the East Moe Lutheran church in Moe township. Rev. A. J. Sheldahl officiated. Interment was in the East Moe cemetery. Pallbearers were: Alfred Wicks, William Vickerman, Harry Gulson, Roy Smestad, Edwin Severson and Oscar C. Helgeson.
