James R. Phillips, 84, Bolivar, died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, in his home following a long illness. He was born July 23, 1914, in Centerville, Iowa to Daniel B. and Fanney Klum Phillips.

He was retired from the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Mary Phillips of White, Penn.; a brother, Daniel B. Phillips of Temple, Texas; a sister, Mary Charles, state of Missouri; as well as one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services were Sunday, Oct. 18, in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Hendrickson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Pitts Chapel.
