Henry Van Veldhuizen Jr.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 at Vander Ploeg's funeral home in Sheldon Wednesday afternoon and at 2:00 p.m. at the United Presbyterian church in Boyden for Mr. Henry Van Veldhuizen Jr. who passed away at the Veterans' hospital in Sioux Falls Sunday morning at 5:30 a.m., August 23rd after a long lingering illness.

The Rev. Henry Baak, pastor of the church, had charge of the services. Special music was sung by Miss Sandra Verrips and Miss Mildred Horn who sang "Going Down The Valley."

The deceased was born November 18, 1918 on a farm north of Boyden. He was 34 years, 9 months and 4 days at the time of his death. He was the son of Mr. Henry Van Veldhuizen Sr. of Orange City.

He was married to Ethel Scoffing of Ruthton, Minnesota on July 6th, 1942. After which he entered World War II. He served his country 3 years and one month.

After his return from service the family made their home in Boyden. Two sons were born to this union, Henry 10 years old and Alan Keith, 5 years Old.

Mr. Van Veldhuizen was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are the widow and two sons,, his father Henry Van Veldhuizen Sr. of Orange City, three sisters: "Liz" Mrs. Joe Van Velzen of Boyden, "Jeannete" Mrs. Gerrit Aalberts of Orange City and "Minnie" Mrs. Robert Dethmers and one brother Jack Van Veldhuizen of Sioux Falls, South Dak. He was preceded in death by his mother and two sisters.

Pallbearers were Peter Vis Jr., Arthur Kruelen, Edward Baartman, Lorraine Grooters, Leland Rensink and Henry Auberg Jr.
Color bearers were: Henry Heusinkveld Sr. and John Sitter.
Color guard was George Horn and Henry Van Houte.
Members of the firing squad were: Chester Sitter, Wm. Rons, Logan Vanden Brink and Dale Ferwerda. Tony Slothouber was escort commander. Interment was made at the Boyden cemetery.
