Died at her residence near Franklin, upon Friday, 23rd inst, Mrs. Phoebe J. Jones relict of John M. Jones Esq., dec'd in the 86th year of her age.

Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late John Dice Esq. and was born, reared, married, and died at her late residence in the northeastern suburb of Franklin.

She was sister of Mrs. E.A. Johnson, H.H. Masters, Mrs. J.B. Moomau, Rev. J.C. Dice, Dr. Reuben Dice, Geo. W. Dice, and I.H. Dice all of whom preceded her to the unknown world, leaving her as a lone sentinel upon the confines of time awaiting the signal to cross the border land that divides warring earth from peaceful Heaven, and lay down the weapons of warfare and take up the crown.

Those who knew our venerable friend in the spring time of life declared her to have been clothed in a queenly form attracting one by her beauty, while she was bright and genial in disposition, casting rays of sunshine where ever she moved in the family or social circle.

Early in life she chose "Mary's better part" and carried into her Christian life that same lightness of heart and happy demeanor that proved to all who knew her that hers was a religion of peace and joy elevating the mind and warming the heart of the possessor so that she delighted to think upon and talk of high, pure and holy things.

While her heart went out in love and sympathy for her race, causing her to speak words of cheer to the discouraged, of comfort to the bereaved and of love and hope to the unregenerate.

The writer had has the honor and pleasure of knowing her for thirty years and during that time has never seen a cloud of gloom cast a shadow over her Christian character or a frown of anger mar the beauty of her saintly face.
