Harvey Sawyer Davis was born in Bathe Co., Virginia, June 13, 1826, died at Mexico, MO., January 16, 1912; aged 85 years, 7 months and 3 days.
He served as a cavalryman in the Confederate army during the Civil War.
He was married to Miss Nancy H. Hamilton, April 8, 1851; to this union were born 4 children, 3 of whom survive him. They are, Mrs. Laura Lightner, of Claremore, Okla., Rev. Howard L. Davis, of Mexico, MO., and Ewell J. Davis of Paisley, Ore.
"Uncle" Sawyer had been a resident of Hunnewell for about 25 years, and was honored and respected by all who knew him. His wife died in July 1910, and since then he has divided his time between living here and with his son in Mexico.
He united with the Methodist church when he was a young man and remained steadfast in the faith until his death.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. O. Blackburn, assisted by Rev. C. O. Ransford, of Clarence and Rev. W.P. Wynn, of Monroe City, at the Methodist church here Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, after which the body was laid to rest in the Browne Cemetery.
Mr. Davis leaves a host of friends and relatives who have our sympathy in their bereavement.
