Samuel J. Corea, age 85 Samuel J. Corea, age 85, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Sam graduated from Southern High School in 1947. He served as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952, followed by 47-year career as a tool engineer for the Boeing Corporation, a job that he loved. Sam was predeceased by his parents, Pasquale and Francesca, and his sister Mary DeGeorge. Survivors: Sam leaves his beloved wife of 53 years, Carmela; brother Nicholas; children Charmaine, Michael, Lisa and John; and five cherished grandchildren. Sam was a devoted member of the St. Francis of Assisi parish community for over 44 years and a 53-year member of the Malvern Men's Retreat. Services: Viewing Tuesday, April 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Ave., Springfield, PA 19064, followed by funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial: Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield. In lieu of flowers: Memorial contributions are welcome and can be mailed to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, care of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
