Irvin Franklin "Frank" Barger, 83, husband of Betty R. Barger, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Born in Hickory, N.C., he was a son of the late Noah and Cora Powell Barger. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and Sumter Masonic Lodge No. 364. He retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam War veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star. He also retired from Black River Electric Coop.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years; a son, Bob Barger (Judy) of Guntersville, Ala.; a daughter, Fran Bauer (Jeremy) of Sumter; grandsons, Frank Barger (Jennifer) of Huntsville, Ala., Jason Bauer (Laurie) of Sumter and Ryan Bauer (Aubrey) of Mount Pleasant; great-grandchildren, Grant Barger, Abbegale Bauer, Wyatt Bauer, Georgia Bauer and Emmerson-Wyn Bauer; and a sister, Edith Grove of Conway.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Barger and Joel Barger.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Williams officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Bauer, Ryan Bauer, Frank Barger, Rodger Bishop, Zeke Godfrey and Mike Lynn.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace Baptist Church, 219 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.
