Robert J. Harris, 84, of Burlington, died at 2:50 PM, Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.vBorn February 7, 1930, in Burlington, he was the son of Henry and Elizabeth Powell Harris. On November 19, 1950, he married Dana L. Alter in Burlington. Bob worked as a construction superintendent at Carl A. Nelson and Company for forty years, retiring in 1993. He was a 1949 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a member of First Congregational Church, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #579. While in high school he was a member of the Burlington High School 1949 Mythical state football championship and had held the record for the 440 yard relay for many years. He also played on a four man bowling team that won the State Championship in 1962. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, golfing, coaching little league, working in his yard, playing cards, and bowling. He especially cherished time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Dana; four sons, Rick Harris of Mabank, TX, Randy Harris of Burlington, Russ Harris of Burlington, and Ryan (Misty) Harris of Burlington; two daughters, Pam (Jim) Lowry of Flower Mound, TX, and Lori (Doug) Coakley of Burlington; 15 grandchildren, Matt Weir, Brad Weir, Andy Weir, Luke Weir, Nic Lowry, Abbie Lowry, Lauren Lowry Owen, Jake Harris, Kati Harris, Samantha Harris, Ali Coakley, Josh Coakley, Brooke Harris, Emma Harris, and Noah Harris; 11 great-grandchildren and one due in July; one brother, George (Mary) Harris of Quitman, AR; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one daughter, Connie Weir Vaughan. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mr. Harris will be 10:00 AM Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Francisco officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.
