Mr. Clayton was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monticello where he served as the song leader for the Businessmen's Sunday School class, the Adult 4 general
assembly and the Lloyd Mission (now Lloyd Baptist Church) all spanning some 55 years. He also sang in the First Baptist Church choir for many years.
Mr. Ed could often be seen walking the streets of Monticello following his retirement and would always have a big smile and a friendly wave to all who blew their car horns in passing. He often would sit on a street bench to talk things over with whoever would come along to talk with him.
Mr. Ed was the sole surviving class member of the senior class of 1930 from Aucilla School.
Mr. Clayton is survived by his daughter Judy Cooksey (Joe) of Jacksonville, Fl, and son Mike (Becky) of Monticello as well as eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Minnie Clayton and one son E. Martin Clayton, DDS.
A graveside service will be on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10:00 am at Roseland Cemetery in Monticello. The family will receive friends Friday, November 9, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Beggs Funeral Home Monticello Chapel (850-997-5612). In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Bethany Hospice, 2517 Bemiss Road, Ste D, Valdosta, Georgia 31602
