I believe that Clarissa was named after the heroine in this book in 9 volumes, "Clarissa Harlowe," or the "History of a Young Lady" - Volume 1-9, published in 1748. It tells the tragic story of a heroine whose quest for virtue is continually thwarted by her family, and is the longest real novel in the English language. (Summary by Wikipedia)
